Night life in China

When I arrived in Zhuhai I wanted to check out how the night life is. Well in Zhuhai there is one bar street which only contains clubs and bars. Outside the clubs there were some guards standing but no one checked my ID if I was over eighteen (which they do in Sweden). There was no problem getting in the Red bar which was the name of the first club.

The strange thing was that even though the club had music and a DJ mixing songs there was no dance floor to dance on. And if there were any dance floor it would probably be very small.

Overall the clubs have very nice interior and good atmosphere. But what amazed me was that people just sat there smoking cigarettes and just listening to the music. Almost no one dances here in China it seems. Very different from my home country Sweden where the dancefloor is packed with people…..

And ordering a drink without knowing Chinese is a cliffhanger.

If you do go to a club in China make sure to bring a card which says your address in chinese characters because otherwise you would probably spend the night at the police station trying to explain where you live.

I observed the same thing in Shijiazhuang City. Only a few people felt like dancing, and yes, there was not really a dance floor to start with - just the spaces between the tables. And mind you, all those who were dancing looked very self-conscious, hahaha. For a city, Shijiazhuang felt somewhat provincial. There were girls who i believe were supposed to be entertainers - they were dressed accordingly (scantily) but i noticed that the Chinese males were such a tame lot. I am from the Philippines and I tell you, Filipino males are much less inhibited. By the way, I was not there looking for uninhibited males. Our Filipina friend who works as a college teacher in Baoding City brought us to a bar to experience what she called “Shijiazhuang City at Night”. Unfortunately, I was not impressed.

That night, a Russian woman took me for a male prostitute. Insulting, but also flattering. ;)

Well Tom if you are good at dancing then sure all the girls would want to dance with you. I usually show off my dance skills in different genres and the girls even buy me free drinks some times. However after that it stops because I dont know the language.

My advice is that you should never show interest in a girl and if she looks at you ignore her. Then she will want you even more. When you have ignored her and watched her in the eyes from time to time she will probably approach you. All young girls know some english so you can communicate a little.

I know how you feel Tom because I cannot get a girl either hehehehe but now I am starting to learn Chinese and I hope you will do it too.
