Meeting the Language Students

I managed to not sleep during the day, and the time I write this entry is my regular sleeping hour. This will hopefully make me recover from jetlag quicker.

I’m sharing an apartment with a friend who’s studying Chinese in Beijing. We live in a central district near Guomao (World Trade Center), and it’s a place where many language students live. Apart from studying, all these guys do is party and work out at the gym. These guys typically have rich or powerful parents and relatives and live without troubles in China. Most of them want to work with trade between China and their originating country when they grow up.

Today I got dragged to a farewell party of a student who was living here. We went to a well-decorated Japanese restaurant and had a great meal. We got two classic Japanese tables where we sat on the floor and ate all kinds of Japanese food like sushi, sashimi, tempura and miscellaneous side dishes. All the waitresses had classical kimonos as well as traditional wooden shoes. We had some nice Janjing beer with the food and everyone got very full. In the end, we only paid $10 USD per person for all that.

It was really interesting to see a this side of China - one I had never seen before.

Some pictures of you apartment etcetera.. would be nice :)

You seem to be having a really nice time in China, you also seem like a very independent person. I’m not sure I could go over to such a big place on my own and live there for such a long period of time.

Have fun!
Steven
