Being the Youngest

July 16, 2007 | Author: Carl Pei | Filed under: Personal

In Swedish High School, I was the youngest in my class. Most people were ‘88 and a few were ‘89. I was born September ‘89.

In Beijing, I’m still the youngest. I live with some Chinese language students in Beijing near Guomao. Most of these people are 22-30 years old and taking a pause from college, and it feels a little awkward at times when I reveal that I’m 17. However, we are pretty similar. Most of these students come not only for the language, but also for networking with similar people who are interested in business with China in the future.

It’s good to be young, as when you surround yourself with people older and more experienced than you, your personal development really gets a boost. I have now been in Beijing one week, and feel it has been a week well-spent.

I feel that I have matured a lot during this week, not only from surrounding myself with older people, but also living alone without the supervision of adults.
