1 Month in Zhuhai, 2 Months in China
September 9, 2007 | Author: Carl Pei | Filed under: Zhuhai, Personal
I’ve now been in China for two months, and completed half my trip. So far, this trip has been the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve grown and developed immensely as a person, met many new people, and seen many interesting things. The things I’ve learned during these two months feels to me more important than what I’ve learned during the past three years in school.
Zhuhai Impressions
I came to Zhuhai (instead of a larger city like Guangzhou) with the impression that everything would be cheap and easy. Boy was I wrong. Everything, except for real estate, is more expensive than Beijing. I still haven’t fully understood why, seeing that the average salary here is lower. I did a little calculation a few days ago and realized that I make around 4x the average salary here.
Zhuhai is a small and calm town at the south coast of China, just above Macau. Buildings are low, one can almost always see the sea, and there is very little pollution. The attitude is more laid back. For instance, people take siestas during lunch.
So far I like it, it’s beautiful. At night, the people party like I’ve never seen before. (More on that later
) I’ve started with some e-commerce business but in Zhuhai it’s a bit hard, the products are more expensive and there is much less to choose from. But we shall see how that goes, I already have some new ideas.
